Pets need vaccinations, just like humans, and according to the vet’s recommendations, may require an annual booster to keep them effective. Maternal antibodies in kittens/puppies are lost 5-6 weeks after birth. Puppies and kittens need to be vaccinated between 8 and 9 weeks of age, followed by a booster vaccination in 3 to 4 weeks, and a third vaccination may be required between 16 and 18 weeks, followed by a booster once a year.
Vaccinations are administered to every kitten and puppy, and they protect them against the following:
C3=Canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus (which causes infectious hepatitis) and canine parvovirus
C4=C3 + parainfluenza virus
C5=C4 + Bordetella bronchiseptica
F3=Feline parvovirus and the two viruses that cause feline
respiratory disease
F4=F3 + leukemia virus
F5=F4 + immunodeficiency virus
According to Tasmanian laws, dogs older than six months must be microchipped. Microchipping is an important safety precaution that improves identification and speeds up reunions in the event of separation. Like our feline friends, cats cannot be sold until they are at least eight weeks old, according to the established legal framework. This regulation covers immunisation, worming, microchipping, and desexing to ensure their well-being.
Cats must be at least eight weeks old, microchipped, desexed, wormed and vaccinated before they can be sold. At Sandy Bay Holistic Veterinary Centre, we put your pets’ health and happiness first while understanding how important it is to comply with these legal obligations. Our team can help you if you need it or have questions about navigating these regulations. Get in touch with us right now as we work to ensure your pets live happy, safe, and law-abiding lives.
